December Daily

Can you believe it’s December already?  How did that happen?

Since Stampin’ Up! has joined forces with Becky Higgins to bring us Project Life by Stampin’ Up! you may have noticed I’ve shared a few pages.  I love how Becky simplified Memory Keeping and love it even more now that Stampin’ Up! have their own line of products.

Now you may have heard about “December Daily” or you may not have – it’s new to me too so thought it sounded like a good idea so I’m jumping in and I’m here today to share my album and a couple of my pages.  I love family traditions and today I start a new one!

What is December Daily?

December Daily® is simply a December mini-album project that documents the 25 days leading up to Christmas. The simple goal is to capture the spirit of December via one story per day and it was conceived by Ali Edwards some 7 years ago.

I shared what I’d started with my 17yo who said ‘but you’ll have to take a photo a day for that’! Well no you dont, its sharing daily stories and you dont always need a photo to go with a story – it does help and has more meaning with a snapshot but it’s not always necessary.  It will be nice to have something to look back on and to hand down to remember the traditions your family makes over the years.  I know since my mum passed I wished I’d sat and asked her about her family traditions when she was a kid and what traditions she’d started with us when we were kids.  I beg of you if your mum is still alive do this before she cant remember or before it’s too late.

So where do you start?

Well here’s a few things you’ll need ….
  • An Album (I’ve used a 6×8 album)
  • Hello December Card Kit
  • Hello December Accessory kit
  • Album Pages
  • Journaling Pens
  • a camera
  • a printer (or you can print at Big W, Harvey Norman, Officeworks)

Now you may not have a ‘photo’ printer at home but you can print photo’s on the spot at places like Officeworks, Harvey Norman and Big W and they occasionally have great specials so be sure to keep an eye out for those.  You can still do your ‘stories’ before printing the photo’s and it’s usually handy to write your stories as they happen or at the end of the day while it’s still fresh in your mind. This way when you go to slot your photo’s in it will be a quick and easy process from referring to the story to see which photo is for what day.

I’ve taken my Cherry Cobbler Project Life Album and I’ve decorated the front and added some ribbon and a bow …

The pretties on the front are from the Hello December Accessory Pack and I’ve added some of the frosted sequins and coloured rhinestones.  The centre panel is a wood piece which I’ve covered with a piece of the Under the Tree Specialty Paper, then I’ve cut out the letters from the back with a craft knife and popped a piece of the silver glimmer paper behind.  The wooden stars and snowflakes have been pressed into the Encore Silver and Gold Mettalic pads.

I do so love Christmas and it really is the most wonderful time of the year!  I love Christmas Carols (I could sing them all year) and I love Christmas cake but most of all I love celebrating the birth of my Saviour!  People seem to have more hope, more love and more joy at this time of year. I know that some of us are saddened when we think of those no longer with us but that soon turns to joy when we remember all the Christmasses and good times we’d spent with them.  I sure miss my mum and really wish she was here to see how my girls have matured and how well they’ve done at school. I know she’d be thrilled at all they are achieving.

December 1

I was so relieved on Saturday to have finally started the Christmas Shopping and I thought instead of packing and hiding the presents away I’ll just wrap them straight away.

Now the smaller gift is for my 17yo and I just knew that she would squish and feel the present and would work out right away what it was so I put my clever clogs on and popped it in one of our empty wood mount cases – she has not idea whats inside and thought it was a book … nope :)

Then as my youngest was sitting on the lounge on her phone I decided to wrap hers. I popped the items in a Stampin’ Up! box and sealed it and then I went and wrapped her gift at the coffee table – right in front of her!  Maybe next time she might like to pay more attention to me than her phone!

Now the Hello December kits have lots of cards and accessories in them ….

Now they dont come in a box like the other sets do so here’s my solution to keep them all neat, tidy and clean …

Now if you use a Wood Mount case everything will fit – even the washi tape!  I love these boxes and how easy it is to keep things together!

How would you like to do your own December Daily Album?  I am having a weekly free crop where you can come and we can all work together – you can even print your photo’s here – just bring them on a flash drive or on your phone.  There will be a small fee for printing your photo’s if you want to do that – just to cover my ink and photo paper.

Here’s a “Hello December Bundle” for you to help you get started ….
